Coronavirus (COVID-19) and volunteering

Update 16th March 2020 – Closure of Drop-ins

Dear All,

Having received further information, and having had a number of replies from Lead Volunteers and volunteers, the outcome is that for the next two weeks all Drop-ins will be closed.

Closed:

Monday Conversation Café, at St Johns Church, WF1 2QU,

Tuesday Drop-in, at St Michaels Church Hall, WF2 9RW,

Wednesday Asylum Seekers and Refugee Signposting Drop-in,

Quaker Meeting House, WF1 1NQ

Wednesday Peer Support, Studio 3, The Art House, WF1 1TE

Thursday Creative Crafts, Studio 3, The Art House, WF1 1TE

Thursday Morning Drop-in, St Michaels Church Hall, WF2 9RW

Thursday Afternoon Welcome Café, St Michaels Church Hall, WF2 9RW

This position will be reviewed for the week beginning 30th March 2020.

The Wednesday Asylum Seekers and Refugees Signposting drop-in, will initially only open to give out information.

The Asylum Seekers Support Fund will continue to be distributed from the Quaker Meeting House, on Wednesdays from 10am – 12pm. Further assistance for people in need of the fund will be available from the Clothing Store, 86, Kirkgate, WF1 1TR, on Mondays and Fridays 1pm – 3pm.

The Clothing Store will operate the ‘Request and Collect’ clothing distribution at St Michaels Church Hall, Westgate Common, WF2 9RW, on Tuesday 17th March, then on Thursday afternoons only until further notice.

Sadly, we will not be offering refreshments at the Quaker Meeting House or St Michaels.

The advice to all volunteers and Wakefield District City of Sanctuary members is to practice ‘social distancing’ – if you are part of the team operating the Asylum Seekers Support Fund or distributing clothing – keep a space between your self and others.

Please be aware there is a lot of information circulating at the moment. We are doing our best to help everyone stay safe and continue to get the support they need.

If you are worried or not sure what is happening please contact me or [email protected] or text 07800605397.

All good wishes, Linda

Note – We are acting on this information (see link to report below) we received earlier in the week via Mary Creagh (twitter), although since then government advice is now to avoid non essential social contact as of 16/3/2020
