In the UK, water is supplied to your house or flat by a regional “monopoly” supplier. This means that while there are different water companies in different parts of the UK, they all supply just one region of the country.

Here in Wakefield, the regional supplier is Yorkshire Water.
If you are in rented accomodation, then the water charges should be included in your rental.

If you own the property, while you cannot change the supplier, you can ask to change to a water meter, which can often work out cheaper, if you don’t use much water. (If you don’t have a water meter, they just estimate how much they think you have used). Find out more about water meters here.
