Refugee Week ran from the 20th to 26th June 2022 and there were events held across the UK as well as here in Wakefield. Here is a timetable for the week in Wakefield.

Art & Sound of Resistance

On Sunday 19th June from 10am to 4pm.

an exhibition “Art & Sound of Resistance” by Bryan Weston Mucheriwa at The Art House Drury Lane, Wakefield, WF1 2TE

On Monday 20 June at 19.30 – during Refugee Week, the Production company Invisible Man performed a one man show in English at the Walker Studio at Wakefield Theatre Royal. (for age over 14 years)

How to be lucky 2022

Come & Share Celebration

To celebrate the different cultures in Wakefield as part of Refugee Week many people joined us on Tuesday 21st June at 1pm – 3pm at Westgate Chapel Garden WF1 1XR

Refugee Week Afternoon Celebration

On Thursday 23rd June 2pm – 4pm at The Art House WF1 2TE

There were Refreshments Crafts, Games and Chat sessions For individuals and for families, everyone was welcomed!

Family Afternoon

On Saturday 25th June at the Art House we held our Refugee week garden celebration and helped people create a mini garden!

People had great fun helping: 

  • Planting a selection of herbs and flowers 
  • Discovering how to press flowers  
  • Finding out about garden wildlife and where they live 
  • Creating a bug sanctuary  

Afternoon Party

This was held by the Wakefield Quakers for Refugees Week on Sunday 26th July from 2pm – 4pm

A free party with:

  • refreshments
  • indoor and outdoor games
  • Activities for everyone

All were made welcome at the Quaker Meeting House on Thornhill Street Wakefield WF1 1 NQ
